GUARDIANSHIP INVESTIGATIONS

 

All petitions for appointment of a guardian or to request termination of a guardianship of a minor child shall be referred for investigation pursuant to the California Probate Code. Guardianship investigations are conducted by a Mediator with Family Court Services. When a petition for appointment or termination of a guardianship is filed, the petitioner shall provide an additional copy to Family Court Services. There is a $125.00 fee that must be paid before the investigation will begin. This investigation includes an interview with the petitioner/ guardian, interviews with minors to the action, when age appropriate, and any other collateral interviews the Mediator deems appropriate.
