STEPPARENT ADOPTION INVESTIGATIONS

 

All petitions for a stepparent to adopt a minor child shall be referred for investigation pursuant to the California Family Code. Stepparent adoption investigations are conducted by a Mediator with Family Court Services. When a petition for a stepparent adoption is filed the petitioner shall provide an additional copy to Family Court Services. There is a $125.00 fee that must be paid before the investigation will begin. This investigation includes an interview with the stepparent and their spouse, interviews with minors to the action, when age appropriate, and any other collateral interviews the Mediator deems appropriate.
