Self-Help Center Information

 

Siskiyou County Superior Court has two programs to assist self-represented persons, the Family Law Facilitatorís Office and the Self-Help Center. The programs operate together under the supervision of an attorney.

 

Clinics are held at various times and locations throughout Siskiyou County. These clinics are free of charge.

Before traveling long distances, please call (530) 842-0157 on the day of the clinic for last-minute schedule changes. The Family Law Facilitator/Self-Help Center Can Help You With:

 

Preparing the papers to start your case

Preparing Your Response:

Responding to papers and orders that have been served on you.

Requesting Changes In Existing Orders:

Modification of prior orders regarding custody, visitation, support.

Settlement

Help for the parties to work out solutions to divorce/property/ support issues

Filing and Service of Process

Making sure your papers are correctly filed with the court and delivered to the other party

Preparing for Court

Information about what will happen and what you need to do before your court date

Orders

Getting the right papers filed after your case has been decided

Judgment

Entering the otherís default or your agreement regarding children/property/support, etc.

Child support issues in all types of cases

Establishing parent-child relationship

Dissolution of Marriage

Custody and visitation issues in the Family court, including modification of orders

Guardianship of the person of a minor child

Stepparent, kinship, or adult adoption

The Family Law Facilitator/Self-Help Clinic Cannot Assist With:

 

Juvenile court matters (except for child support arising out of such matters)

Non-relative independent or agency adoptions

Guardianship of the estate

Conservatorship

Wills

Probate of an estate and related matters

Contract issues, except for small claims

Real estate matters, including landlord-tenant issues

Other civil or criminal matters

 

 

There are four computer terminals available for public self-help use. The terminals may be used for filling out and printing legal forms.

 

If you are unable to come into one of the Self-Help Clinics, you may access legal forms online.

 

California Courts Self Help Center

The Administrative Office of the Courtsí web site offers general information, resources and assistance to people becoming involved in the legal system and to litigants who choose to represent themselves in court.

 

Please note: Siskiyou County Superior Court requires the original and 2 copies of all documents presented for filing. Forms may be neatly hand-printed in black (preferred) or dark blue ink.
